Branding like Dita Von Teese

Dita, MAC spokesperson and lipstick rider extraordinaire |
Dita Von Teese was recently interviewed on Good Morning America on building her brand or logo, the interview is really great. I have to say I was kind of surprised that she seemed a bit shy and reserved, but it was interesting to hear a little bit more about the woman behind the image. I wanted to embed it, but was not able to, so you should go check it out: Dita Von Teese.
Von Teese is is famous for carrying her on stage persona as a vintage burlesque dancer into her everyday life. She describes her transformation as a hobby. She really loves what she does. She puts it out there without fear of being judged, and there is a lot that a girl can learn from Dita about how to brand a successful blog!
Embracing your inner bombshell, give yourself permission to dress up!
Packaging is huge. The look of your blog is incredibly important. Spend a weekend redesigning your blog, make it prettier, make it sexier, make it reflect everything that you and your blog are all about! I had to teach myself about photoshop, illustrator, html and a bit of css to get Chic and Charming to where it is today. You can challenge yourself, or you can go a simpler route…minimalism can be chic. Try to deviate from the standard templates, use a create color scheme, pick up a few free graphic online to embellish your sidebars. If you are willing to spend a little bit of money, some of the graphic designers on etsy who sell etsy banners could probably put together something pretty cute for your blog instead!
Dita was asked to be a brand spokes person because she was a great match for certain brands.
Lingerie, Makeup, Liquor…sexy Dita helps sell sexy brands. Matching spokesperson with brand is just as important for the spokesperson as it is for the brand. As a webmaster, the advertisements featured prominently on your blog will reflect on you and what your a blog is about. I’m a big fan of having control over what gets promoted on my blogs. I started out advertising through amazon, where I could choose exactly what gets featured on Chic and Charming and I have to say, I am still a fan. I never have to worry about something sleazy being featured on my website, I have complete control.
Don’t try so hard to follow a formula and define yourself by what you think is the “right thing.”
According to Dita, some people see success, and they see that there is a certain way you become successful, and follow that formula. Dita wanted to fill a void; she wanted to be different. Dita noticed that many very successful people through history filled a void, they were a little different…she took a chance, suffered through some lean times but stayed true to her vision and succeeded eventually. Take a chance and believe in what you do, if even your audience is slow to build. Rememer, slow and steady wins the race! If you are trying to imitate another blog that is already out there, you are fighting a loosing battle. Blog about something that you are passionate about! Be original! Be yourself!
